Research


GOAL
The overall goal of fashion magazines is to inspire others and leave readers with the motivation to try something different and creative. While flipping through one more than 50% is dedicated to presenting pictures of beautiful models wearing either high end or the trending brands of the season. These pictures also work as a type of advertising for magazine companies to collaborate with brands to expose the brand in an influential matter. Fashion magazines are also known for mixing with beauty since both go hand in hand pretty perfectly. Some examples of this would be including makeup, hair, and perfume brands since most fashion companies own a separate beauty line. It is also very common to come across life hacks, quizzes, tips, healthy quick recipes, tutorials and the latest gossip on celebrities.


COVER

The first thing that came to mind when researching this section was the cover of the magazines. There is a pattern of what type model is usually on the cover. Truth is the person on the front cover is the trendiest, most popular celebrity/model that month. It is also common for the creators of these magazines to put something along the lines of “5 things to..” or “10 tips to..” and with something to attract their audience into reading the latest issue. The font utilized in these magazines helps shape the magazine into its final product, the title includes an iconic big font (depending on which magazine). Along with the font, eye appealing colors are usually used on the covers to take attention from any other magazine on the rack.


MARKETING

Marketing is a key element in order for magazines to keep selling. Partnerships involve fashion or beauty companies being introduced to the readers in an advertisement page. A familiar example of this would be Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume, and the page that is dedicated in the most fashion magazine for it. This page doesn’t only include the page advocating to buy the product but a small sample of it as well, and even sometimes coupons. Marketing is also utilized during monthly/yearly email and mail subscriptions. A small paper comes in each magazine ready to be filled out with the email of the person reading the magazine. The small paper usually promises some type of offer of the subscription.
